Synopsis:

Hayden Chisholm is a passionate musician. Originally from New Zealand, he has always been open to new types of music – which is how Hayden ended up in Germany, where he is studying music and exploring the roots of folk music. German culture is almost completely foreign to the young musician, and the musical landscape even more so – so he embarks on a cultural tour of the Central European country.

While Bavarian folk music also finds stereotypical appeal in New Zealand, Hayden quickly realizes that Germany has much more to offer: in Leipzig, the musician dances with the GewandhausChor, while in Cologne he meets the pub band Singender Holunder and finds his musical conclusion with the Cologne hip-hop group “BamBam Babylon Bajasch.” Later, he meets yodeling teacher Loni Kuisle in the Allgäu region, sings with the folk music cabaret “Wellküren” in Bavaria, before Hayden meets rock singer Bobo in Saxony-Anhalt.

Sound of Heimat is a road movie across Germany's musical provinces – and at the same time an opportunity for Hayden to shed his prejudices about the German people, while we learn with him just how musical Germany can be.
